Let’s pray

The so called punk prayer in the Christ the Savior Cathedral and all the publicity around it made me wonder “Can we call it a prayer?”.

1 They prayed in masks – why? Christians shouldn’t wear disguises, they are not supposed to do anything they might be ashamed of. I guess they knew they could be punished for their action.

2 Who were the audience the prayer was aimed at? I think it looked more like some kind of public protest or even a show with a purpose to draw people’s attention. If that is so they have achieved their goal.

3 The Bible teaches us to pray for those who are in authority. So if they are not happy with the way Vladimir Putin governs the state, instead of trying to have him driven away they could ask for changes in his leadership style. God is almighty. He can change anything.

4 Is there a reason why they didn’t they pray to God, but instead addressed Jesus’ mother? I don’t think it’s Biblical. (1 Timothy 2:2-6) ¹ I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— ² for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. ³ This is good, and pleases God our Savior, ⁴ who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. ⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

If someone wants other people to join him/her in prayer it isn’t necessary to rock and shock Orthodox believers. One of the alternatives could be “an Internet prayer” Here is my prayer: “Our Heavenly Father, thank you for all your blessings. Forgive us our sins. Forgive the punk girls. Please encourage our rulers to live godly lives and help them take good care of their people for that is their responsibility, given by You. Give them wisdom and perseverance in their attempts to make our society more truthful and just. May Your Kingdom come. Amen”.

Так называемый панк молебен в соборе Христа Спасителя и все это общественное внимание заставили меня задуматься, а можно ли это назвать молитвой?

1 Они молились в масках – почему? Христианам скрывать свои лица не следует, т.к. от них не ожидают ничего такого, за что им было бы стыдно. Я думаю, они знали, что их могут наказать за их действия.

2 Кто был целевой аудиторий этой молитвы? Я думаю, она была больше похожа на публичный протест или даже на шоу, имеющее своей целью привлечь внимание. Если это так, им это удалось.

3 Библия учит нас молиться за тех, кто у власти. Таким образом, если они не довольны тем, как Путин руководит страной, вместо попыток добиться, чтобы его убрали, они могли бы попросить изменений в его стиле руководства. Бог всемогущ. Он может изменить все что угодно.

4 Есть ли причина, по которой они молились не Богу, а Богородице? Мне кажется, это не по Библии. (1-е Тимофею 2:2-6) ¹Итак прежде всего прошу совершать молитвы, прошения, моления, благодарения за всех человеков, ²за царей и за всех начальствующих, дабы проводить нам жизнь тихую и безмятежную во всяком благочестии и чистоте, ³ибо это хорошо и угодно Спасителю нашему Богу, ⁴Который хочет, чтобы все люди спаслись и достигли познания истины. ⁵Ибо един Бог, един и посредник между Богом и человеками, человек Христос Иисус, ⁶предавший Себя для искупления всех.

Если кто-то хочет, чтобы к его/ее молитве присоединились другие, нет необходимости потрясать и шокировать православных. Одной из альтернатив могла бы быть «интернет молитва». Вот моя молитва: «Отец наш небесный, спасибо Тебе за все Твои милости. Прости нам наши грехи. Прости этих девочек-панков. Пожалуйста, наставь наших правителей на то, чтобы они жили по-Божески и помоги им хорошо заботиться о своих гражданах, т.к. в этом заключается их ответственность, данная им Тобой. Пошли им мудрость и настойчивость в их попытках сделать наше общество более правдивым и справедливым. Да придет Царствие Твое. Аминь».

Putin’s Russia vs Holy Rus

S Yesenin: If the Holy army yells, "Abandon Rus and live in paradise, I'll say, "I don’t need paradise, give me my homeland".

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin publicly quoted the verse while celebrating his victory in the presidential race. "I don't need paradise, give me my homeland" looks like a good slogan for a party (or a movement or a social group) with the name “Stable Putin’s Russia”. I don’t know why Sergei Yesenin attributed to “the holy army” that strange call to abandon Russia. It could be more comprehensible if the country was totally possessed by devil.

Currently quite a few intelligent and talented people leave Russia. No one would go away seeking for better life if there were conditions suitable for decent life. It seems like there finally appeared a man, who is sincere in his plan to change the situation and who is ready to offer a real alternative to the present political system. As it was stated in Mikhail Prokhorov’s pre-election ad, it’s time to build new Russia with a new president. Shall we call the population of Russia “new Russians”? J

And who are we anyway? Irina Prokhorova in her interview to “Moskovskii Komsomolets” said that Russia is perceived by the rest the world as some kind of gangster state.  I want to believe that it isn’t so. But it isn’t enough just to believe. It is necessary to prove to the world, and most importantly to ourselves, that we are that great and culturally sophisticated country, that (according to I Prokhorova) we keep talking about at book shows when we present Russia.

And here is the question: how does M Prokhorov envisage the revival of the Russian cultural tradition? Humanism and individualism, based on west-European philosophical doctrines turned out to be less than perfect. M Prokhorov wants to integrate Russia into the European Union . I like the idea. However it doesn’t mean that we have to completely embrace all their values. We, as a great culturally sophisticated country, have something to offer. It might be sufficient to remember the heritage of Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, Gogol and Russian religious philosophers of the 20^th century. After all there is such thing as “Holy Rus”. I’m far from supporting monarchism, but I really like the way Holy Rus is described by prince Peter Lopukhin (look here http://www.dorogadomoj.com/dr62svj.html#p1 ) This is what he wrote:

Every nation has its own gifts that determine the nature of its aspirations, interests and lifestyles. In accordance with the gifts nations self-identify and give themselves a name. So based on its strive for power and wealth Britain called itself Great, Germany called itself “learned” and France called itself “La Belle” for its love for elegance and beauty.

The Russian nation, that is especially gifted in the religious sphere, named itself (due to its special love for Holiness) “Holy Rus”…

…She (Holy Rus) wants to make sure there is no indifference to good and evil “in the air”. She wants the struggle against evil to carry on. She wants to see no society split or one group ruling over the other. She wants to have no temptations and strong sinful desires at all or to see them being fought against. Holy Rus wants the authorities to possess orthodox Christian beliefs or philosophy so that the authorities, and hence all public life directed by them, could clearly identify the objective of the struggle against evil.

If Europe doesn’t impose any values that contradict the principles of Christian morals, joining EU will be a desirable thing. I hope these principles are appreciated not only by Slavophiles but by Westernizers as well and can consolidate the society within the country and on the global scale. Holy Rus is not paradise but it sure can help us find the way there. Lies and corruption that we see in the present day Russia will take us nowhere.

Путинская Россия vs Святая Русь

«С Есенин: Если крикнет рать святая: "Кинь ты Русь, живи в раю!",  я скажу: "Не надо рая,  дайте родину мою."»

Премьер министр Владимир Путин публично процитировал эти стихи, празднуя свою победу в президентской гонке. "Не надо рая, дайте родину мою!" - хороший слоган для партии или движения или социальной группы, которую можно назвать «Стабильно-путинская Россия».  Не знаю, почему Сергей Есенин приписал святой рати это странный призыв бросить Россию. Это можно было бы себе представить, если бы страна находилась целиком под властью дьявола.

Сейчас немало умных талантливых людей покидают Россию. Никто бы не уезжал в поисках лучшей жизни, если бы были созданы условия для достойной жизни. Кажется нашелся человек, который искренне хочет изменить ситуацию и готов предложить реальную альтернативу существующему строю. Как это прозвучало в предвыборном ролике Михаила Прохорова время строить новую Россия с новым президентом. А все население России назовем «новые русские»? J

А кто мы сейчас на самом деле? Ирина Прохорова в интервью МК сказала, что сейчас Россия в представлении остального мира какое-то бандитское государство. Хочется верить, что это не так. Но верить мало, необходимо доказать миру, и, прежде всего себе, что мы и есть «великая культурная страна», о которой по словам И Прохоровой, мы говорим на книжных выставках, представляя Россию.  

И вот здесь возникает вопрос,  каким  видит М Прохоров возрождение русской культурной традиции. Гуманизм и индивидуализм, основанные на западноевропейских философских взглядах оказались неидеальными. М Прохоров хочет интегрировать Россию в Европейский союз. Я – за. Только это не значит, что мы должны полностью принять все их ценности. У нас, как у великой культурной страны, есть что предложить.  Достаточно вспомнить наследие Достоевского, Пушкина, Гоголя, русских религиозных философов начала 20 века. В конце концов, существует такое понятие святая Русь.  Я вовсе не сторонник монархизма, но мне очень нравится описание Святой Руси князем Петром Лопухиным (См. http://www.dorogadomoj.com/dr62svj.html#p1 ) Вот, что он пишет:

Каждый народ имеет свои дарования, определяющие характер его стремлений, интересов и жизни, согласно которым народы сознают и называют себя. Так, по стремлению к силе и богатству, назвала себя "Великая" Британия, "Ученая" Германия, и "La Belle" France назвала себя по любви к изяществу и красоте.

Русский народ, особо одаренный религиозно, назвал себя - по особой любви к святости -- "Святая Русь"…

…Она (Святая Русь) хочет, чтобы не было "в воздухе" безразличия ко злу и добру, чтобы была борьба со злом, чтобы не было разделения и властвования одних над другими, чтобы не было соблазнов и тяжких искушений, чтобы была борьба против них. Святая Русь хочет, чтобы у власти было православное мировоззрение или философия, чтобы власть, а за нею и вся руководимая ею общественная жизнь, ясно сознавала цель борьбы со злом.

Если Европа не станет навязывать ценности противоречащие принципам христианской морали, вступление в ЕС является желаемой целью. Я надеюсь, что эти принципы близки не только славянофилам но и западникам и способны сплотить общество внутри страны и в глобальном масштабе. Святая Русь это не рай, но она точно может помочь найти дорогу туда. Ложь и коррупция, которую мы видим в современной России, заведет нас в тупик.
